Collaborative Construction

This week, Darcy Turner visited the school to teach us a bit about sculpture.  Darcy is a London based artist, designer and inventor who runs unique 3D workshops with children.

Over the last two days, he worked with Year 4 & 5 creating some superb wild animal sculptures.  Under his instruction, the children learned how to cut, shape and join wire to make wonderful 3D forms.  They worked in groups building the various animal parts, eventually joining them together.

6 animals were made in total; a giraffe, lion, rhino, crocodile, shark and eagle.  The artist was very impressed by the children’s ability to collaborate so well on the construction.  The quality of the work was some of the best he has seen!  The children had such a great time, and really enjoyed showing off their effort out on the Headmasters lawn.
