Nursery

Our purpose-built Nursery was opened in September 2008 and it is a bright and spacious environment for our youngest children. As well as quiet corners for reading and areas for messy play and dressing up, there is a secure outdoor area with plenty of opportunities for free play.

Our caring staff show even the youngest members of the school the importance of learning manners, sharing, taking turns and being kind to others. Hours at the Nursery are very flexible and many children like to stay for lunch, where they bring their own packed lunches.

The Curriculum

The Early Years (Nursery and Reception, ages 3-5 years)
Pupils in Nursery and Reception work towards achieving the Early Learning Foundation Stage goals as defined in the seven areas of learning of the Foundation Stage. The main aim is that the overall emotional, social, intellectual and physical development of each pupil is met through providing an appropriate broad curriculum.

The pupils in the Nursery gradually increase the number of sessions they attend so that by the time they reach Reception age they are ready for full time school. Each day in the Nursery is different with a different focus be that music, library, computing, games etc.

Reception pupils are completely integrated into the Junior School and as with Years 1 and 2, receive PE, Sport and Music lessons. The Foundation Stage curriculum is followed and most pupils reach the Early Learning Foundation Stage goals at the end of the school year. The Early Years department offers an educational programme to meet each pupil’s needs so that progress is made at a pace suitable for each individual.
