Science Quiz

It has been a long wait, but at last the National Science Quiz Final (that was due to be held in London in June) took place at Gayhurst School this afternoon.  We were delighted to welcome back two ex-Gayhurst pupils, Alice and James, who were members of the original teams.  Two of our teams qualified for the final – Team 1 consisted of Alice, Dhruv, Oliver and Devyani and Team 2 was James, Noah, Monty and Benjamin.  The surroundings weren’t quite as exciting as a trip to London, but the children were very focused and answered some difficult questions using iPads as keypads.  All 8 quizzers performed amazingly well, but Devyani and Benjamin were on the top fifteen leader board until question twenty and Oliver joined them at the half way stage.  At one point, Benjamin was in 5th place, so it was a very exciting afternoon.  Some of the Year 5 and 6 forms joined the quiz from their classrooms at form time and were surprised by how hard the questions were!  We had 442 teams (1768 children) from 308 schools taking part in the Science Championship during the last academic year and there were 51 teams (200 children – allowing for the teams with less than 4 players) from 44 schools in the Finals. This is a team event and the results were broadcast at 3.15 and the Year 6 children returned to the lab for the announcement.  Both teams did incredibly well as out of fifty one teams (204 players) Team 1 came 14th and Team 2 came 17th.

Well done to all the Science Quizzers.

There will be another Science Quiz in the Spring Term.
