This Girl Can

For the first time in Gayhurst History we have an all-girl victory over our boys in Cross Country.

On Monday 14th of January, we joined many other local schools in a Cross Country event hosted by York House School in Rickmansworth.  Each race featured U11 teams from 12 schools and had approximately 100 runners. Jocelyn (pictured centre) came in 6th and the girls team as a whole took 3rd place. The team and the school are delighted that this is the first time their female athletes have triumphed over the boys.

The boys team however, didn’t do badly themselves! Daniel (pictured second from right) took 9th place and the team as a whole were snapping at the heels of the girls, taking 4th place.

Mr Kearns, himself a runner, triathlon competitor as well as Gayhurst’s Director of Sport said, “Cross Country has grown in popularity in recent years. Gayhurst is the perfect training ground as we are fortunate enough to have large open fields and woodland in the grounds of the school for our pupils to practice on different terrain. We have been co-educational for ten years now so it is fantastic that the girls are now giving the boys a run for their money! Gayhurst prides itself on it’s ‘sport for all’ philosophy and this inclusive attitude brings such confidence and enthusiasm out in it’s pupils”.
