Joining Gayhurst

Nurturing children to succeed

Joining Gayhurst School means becoming part of a nurturing community that offers small class sizes, high academic standards, and second-to-none pastoral care. Our broad and balanced curriculum is designed to inspire every child, helping them discover their strengths and reach their full potential.

It's as easy as 1...2...3

1. Enquire and Visit

We’d love to welcome you to Gayhurst School. Simply complete our online tour booking form and choose a day that suits you. We offer several tour slots each weekday, hosted by senior members of staff who will be delighted to show you around and answer any questions.

You’re welcome to join us for a personal tour or attend one of our Open Events — as often as you like. Every visit is a chance to experience the warmth of our community, and you’ll always be greeted with a smile.

2. Taster and Assessment

Activity Sessions (Nursery & Reception)

For children joining Gayhurst in Nursery or Reception, a conditional offer is typically made in August of the year prior to entry. This offer is subject to the successful completion of a short, informal activity session. Designed to be fun and engaging, the session allows us to observe each child’s readiness to access and benefit from our broad curriculum. Children are expected to attend independently, helping us ensure they are well placed to thrive in our learning environment. All children in a current Nursery setting will receive a visit there, during the summer term.

Taster and Assessment (years 1 to 6)

Once you’ve visited Gayhurst and feel ready to take the next step, the first stage is to register your child. We’ll then invite them to spend some time with us and take part in a relaxed assessment. Our aim is to make this visit enjoyable and welcoming — not just a test, but a chance for your child to experience life at Gayhurst. We also request a report from your child’s current school to help us build a full picture. Once all the information is gathered, it is carefully reviewed by the Head before a decision is made regarding an offer.

3. Offer and Induction

Following your child’s visit to Gayhurst, we typically make a formal offer within 48 hours. Once a place is accepted, we offer a number of opportunities to help ease the transition into school life. These include informal visits during the term and a formal induction day at the end of the Summer Term. Just before the new academic year begins, children are also invited to a familiarisation session, helping them feel confident and excited about joining the Gayhurst community.
