Nursery and Reception
welcome to
The Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Gayhurst is a joyful and nurturing journey that begins the September after children turn three. Over two years—Nursery and Reception—our youngest learners are gently guided through a rich, play-based curriculum that lays the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.
Our Nursery class welcomes up to 25 children and is led by a dedicated team of three experienced staff members. With a strong focus on personal development, communication, and curiosity, children thrive in a warm and stimulating environment where every child is known, valued, and encouraged to grow.
Reception is the natural next step, with children moving seamlessly from Nursery alongside new joiners. We offer three Reception classes, each capped at just 16 children to ensure individual attention and meaningful relationships. Every class is supported by a qualified teacher and a full-time teaching assistant, creating a calm and focused setting where children feel safe and confident to explore.
Specialist teaching enriches both Nursery and Reception, with weekly sessions in Spanish, Music, Computing, and Sport. In Reception, children also begin swimming lessons—an exciting milestone that builds confidence and physical development.
Our EYFS is designed to spark imagination, build resilience, and foster independence. Whether your child is taking their first steps into Nursery or joining us in Reception, they’ll be welcomed into a caring community where learning is joyful, friendships flourish, and every child is supported to shine.
