Years 1 and 2

Key Stage 1

Laying Down Strong Foundations

Key Stage 1 (KS1) at our school marks a wonderful chapter in each child’s learning journey—full of discovery, growth, and increasing independence. Spanning Years 1 and 2, KS1 builds on the Early Years Foundation Stage, offering a nurturing yet stimulating environment where children continue to thrive both academically and personally.

Our approach to KS1 is rooted in warmth, structure, and high expectations. Children are supported to develop core skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, while also exploring a broad and balanced curriculum that includes science, humanities, art, and sport. Learning is hands-on, creative, and carefully tailored to meet the needs of each child, ensuring they feel confident, curious, and excited to learn.

Each class benefits from the expertise of a dedicated teacher with the support, where necessary of a teaching assistant, allowing for close attention to individual progress and wellbeing. Small class sizes mean every child is known and valued, and their unique strengths are nurtured.

Specialist teaching continues in KS1, with children enjoying weekly lessons in Spanish, Music, Computing, and Sport. These sessions are delivered by passionate subject experts who bring energy and depth to each discipline. Swimming also continues, helping children build physical confidence and water safety skills.

KS1 is a time when children begin to take greater ownership of their learning, develop friendships, and grow in resilience. Our caring and experienced staff work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition from EYFS and a strong foundation for future success.
