Years 3 to 6

The Prep Department at our school—spanning Years 3 to 6—is where children truly begin to spread their wings. These years are full of exciting challenges, new opportunities, and growing independence, all supported by a nurturing and structured environment.

Year 3 is a gentle transition into Key Stage 2. Children begin to experience more formal learning while still enjoying the comfort of a form teacher-led classroom. They also start moving around the school for specialist subjects, including French—joining Spanish as part of their language learning journey. This blend of familiarity and new experiences helps children build confidence and adapt smoothly to the demands of Prep life.

From Year 4 onwards, children receive their own devices to support learning and are grouped into sets for Maths and English, allowing for tailored teaching that meets individual needs. Specialist teaching continues across the curriculum, and children enjoy a rich programme of academic, creative, and physical education.

Residential experiences begin in Year 3 with a fun overnight camp at school, and continue in Years 4, 5, and 6 with exciting trips away that build resilience, teamwork, and independence. These experiences are often highlights of the year and create lasting memories.

As children progress through Prep, we begin to focus on future schools. Families receive expert guidance and personalised support to help navigate the next steps with confidence. In Year 6, leadership roles are introduced, giving pupils the chance to take on responsibility and contribute meaningfully to school life.

Major performances in Years 4 and 6 showcase the talents and teamwork of our pupils, while performance opportunities are woven throughout the curriculum.
