Promoting the welfare of pupils
Gayhurst School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment.
We believe that students have a right to learn in a supportive, caring and safe environment, which includes the right to protection from all types of abuse, where staff are vigilant for signs of any student in need and are confident about applying the processes to avert and alleviate any such problems. We have a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and procedures in place; these can be viewed on our website in the Policies section. All staff (including supply staff, volunteers and Governors) must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

Safeguarding is about ensuring that everyone is safe from harm – safe from bullying, safe from people who could abuse, safe from discrimination or harassment – and that we all feel safe in our environment.
On occasions, we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a young person’s welfare. We will ensure that concerns about our students are discussed first with his/her parents/carers unless we have reason to believe that this would be contrary to their welfare.
If your child is ever concerned about safety or well-being or about a friend, they should talk to one of the school’s Designated Safeguarding Team.
