Travel to Gayhurst

(including our Bus Service to and from school daily)

At Gayhurst, we are passionate about teaching children healthy life styles and about making the environment a better place for our children to live in. This page will provide you with the information regarding different options for getting to and from school.

Gayhurst is part of the ‘WOW – Living Streets’ campaign. WOW (Walk once a week) rewards children who walk or ‘Park and Stride’ to school at least once a week with a collectible badge each month. Walking to school helps children feel happier and healthier and even do better in class because they arrive refreshed, fit and ready to learn.

‘Park and Stride’ is a simple initiative, where parents/carers are encouraged to park their car about a 10-minute walk from school and then walk the rest of the way with their children. There are good health benefits from walking part of your journey to school as well as having a little more quality time with children. Click here for the ‘Footpaths’ Map which tells you walking routes to school, as well as safe places to park.

Occasional ‘Walking Buses’ are run by school staff during the Spring and Summer months and offer the opportunity for children to walk to school safely from a particular pick up point. Gerrards Cross Railway Station is just a 15 minute walk from the school.

For the children that cycle to and from school, we have covered cycle shelters for them to safely store their bicycles.

Another option is ‘Car sharing’ which can help to cut congestion around the school and there are many great benefits such as:

  • Reduce the amount of time spent taking the children to and from school
  • Reduces pollution and parking problems around the school
  • Avoids the early morning/ school pick up traffic
  • Opportunity to meet other children living locally

Modeshift STARS

Gayhurst has belonged the Modeshift STARS scheme for some time and we hold a Bronze Accreditation.
The scheme aims to improve the amount of children walking to school.
The name ‘Modeshift’ was chosen to reflect the ‘shifting the mode of transport’ for children.
