STEAM stands for FUN!
STEAM week took place in the week before half term, with all activities linked to the theme of the Emergency Services. The entire school had 3 days off timetable, and the school staff worked tirelessly to create and teach the sessions. The children learnt about how the police, fire service and ambulance deal with emergencies and deploy their staff accordingly.
The children took part in a variety of activities, highlights include:
· The senior school had a visit from the Police Dogs, they asked a number of insightful questions about the dogs training and the police demonstrated how the dogs can subdue a criminal.
· The Year 5 and 6 children conducted CSI style investigations, including fingerprinting, fibre analysis, handwriting analysis and footprint analysis. They found that Mrs McLaughlin and Mrs Harper were the guilty parties!
· The children all had time in the woods, participating in forest school activities, and learnt how to build shelters and fires.
· Our younger pupils learnt how to call 999, knowing when they would need to, and how to.
· All children designed and made models of new emergency services vehicles.
· We turned the pavilion into a ‘hazard alley’ so the children could check for health and safety issues
The week was highly successful with children enjoying the activities and learning different skills in each activity. The outdoor learning was a particular highlight, with all children outdoors, and one year group out at any particular time.
The trip and visit days were postponed to the Spring Term, and we look forward to these.
