Construction commenced in January 2024 on our exciting year long project to create a new Sports Hall and 220 seat auditorium.

Our ambitious project will see our previous indoor sports provision, the Gibbs Hall and surrounding buildings razed to the ground and the construction of a new Sports Hall, Auditorium and associated rooms. This new state of the art development will provide our community with facilities for sport and
drama, as well as a fantastic facility to welcome our parents and other key stakeholders to attend performances and other events.

We have installed a timelapse camera at the front of the site, providing minute by minute updates of the school development, giving all members of our community real time updates of the site. You can find the link at the bottom of the page.

February

The demolition now complete, all three buildings were flattened, materials sorted and removed and ground prepared the foundations. On Monday 12th February the official ‘Groundbreaking Ceremony’ was held where Mr Davies, Headmaster turned the first ‘sod’ of the build.

March

Much of March was spent preparing the site for the coming construction after the demolition of several buildings within the building site to the right hand side of our plot. With the construction of a new Sports Hall, Auditorium, Drama Studio and Staff Room as well as changing rooms and offices, it was imperative that the site team were extensive in their preparations.

April

The return to school after the Easter break saw much excitement from staff and pupils alike as the steel frame for the new Sports Hall went up. A skyline defining structure, although the same height as the old Gibbs Hall, due to the flat roof, it has an imposing feel. The contractors have chosen to use transparent hoarding, which has been incredible for the children on site to see the building site up close on a daily basis.

May

Every day in May felt like there was something significant happening. The pipework for utilities went in, the beam and block flooring for the Sports Hall was installed, the first bricks were laid at the back of the Sports Hall and the preparation for the roof put in place.

June

During the May Half Term, the steels for the auditorium went up, which meant that once again children were returning to School at the beginning of June to see enormous changes on the site. With the Auditorium steels in place you can get a real sense of the scope of the project and just how much the
landscape of the school will change. We also saw the roof parapet go on, and the brick work go up at a seemingly incredible pace.

July

Despite the unseasonable weather we have experienced this year in the UK, the project continues at an astonishing pace. The Sports Hall roof now complete, and the definition of our new foyer clear to see, with a curved reception area and first aid room and servery directly behind. The children are excited to see what it will look like when we return from the summer holidays – we are expecting the brick work to be completed and the inside work to start in the Autumn.

August

Whilst the pupils and teaching staff took a break, no such thing could be said for the builders on site. The builders continued to work at a seemingly incredible pace. The walls for the sports hall and auditorium were completed, the staff building also taking shape, focus turned to the roofing for the main buildings.

Whilst the site was quiet the main infrastructure for the buildings was put in place with the new electrical substation and  drainage attenuation tank installed. The latter requiring half the school field to be dug up!

September

As part of our INSET day, staff were fortunate to be allowed inside access to the building site. It gave staff the opportunity to see the scope of the project for themselves and the size of the buildings that would soon be at their disposal.  The sports hall is vast, a 3 court space for inside PE and sport. The auditorium is easily identifiable by it’s angled roof.

We have also seen the internal works start, with the inside of the sports hall now completely white!

October

September proved to be the wettest month on record, making for a muddy building site! The inside of the sports hall is now painted and awaiting lighting installation. The auditorium is now having its roof tiled and the staff room is having its first fix of electrics. We are on track for a spring finish!

November

The last month has seen the Sports Hall cladding almost reach completion, with just the final corner to go!

The Sports Hall and Staff Room will be the first part of the project to be completed. Electrics, flooring and lighting have been installed in both buildings.

The foyer roof structure is in place and can be seen on our timelapse camera.
