Gayhurst’s Golfing Star
Gayhurst’s Year 6 pupil Daniel Butteriss has won The Under 12s Bucks, Berks and Oxford County Golfing Championship. He brought his rather grand trophy in to school today to show his classmates and his, rather envious, peer golfers.
Daniel, who plays golf at Wexham Park Golf Club, has been knocking golf balls around since he was a toddler. Taking it seriously at age 5, under the watchful eye of his father, Daniel has managed to achieve this win with a handicap of 11. Daniel is delighted to be able to keep his glass trophy and his name will be engraved on a shield alongside previous winners such as Eddie Pepperell who recently won his first European Tour event at the Qatar Masters.
Daniel’s sister Ella, a former Gayhurst pupil who is now at Beaconsfield High, achieved her own success back in the Summer when she won the U13 Bucks Junior Ladies County Championship title. Daniel laughs that there is quite a bit of competition in the family to see who can get the best handicap. Ella’s is currently 9 and Daniel says, with a chuckle, “My Dad’s handicap is 13. It really should be a lot higher!”.
Mr Bushnell, a keen golfer himself, said “Daniel’s achievement is so inspiring to our other golfers at Gayhurst and to all of our children, showing that dedication and effort pays off. We are very proud of him”.
